Board confirms Genevieve Taylor as district court magistrate

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners on May 21 unanimously approved a circuit judge’s appointment of Genevieve Taylor to serve as magistrate of the 42‑2 district court.

The board’s chair moved to concur; the motion was supported and carried by a recorded vote of 12 to 0. After the vote, Taylor addressed the board, saying, “For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Genevieve Taylor. I have been a magistrate at the Fortieth District Court for the last 5 years,” and that she was “very, very thankful” for the opportunity to serve in the county court system.

Why it matters: Magistrates handle preliminary judicial matters including arraignments and certain civil proceedings, and filling the post allows the court to maintain caseload continuity. The board did not discuss objections or alternatives during its consideration; the appointment was presented as a routine concurrence with the judge’s recommendation.

The board announced the appointment during its appointments agenda and welcomed Taylor to the microphone to speak to the commissioners. The motion to concur was moved by a commissioner and seconded; the board recorded a unanimous vote. Taylor said she was “really excited to be part of the county employment.”

The board took no additional action related to the district court appointment at the meeting and moved on to subsequent agenda items.
