CUSD 300 proposes replacing Securly with Lightspeed and Gaggle for filtering and student‑safety monitoring

John Hummel presented a recommended transition from Securly to Lightspeed for web filtering and to Gaggle for student‑safety monitoring. Hummel said Gaggle provides live human review of alerts and after‑hours support, and that Lightspeed offers expanded technical filtering capabilities and parent access features.

He reported a proposed two‑year Lightspeed subscription for $101,550 and a one‑year Gaggle cost of $84,033.50, and said the combined cost ($185,533.50, as stated in the presentation) would be paid from the technology budget (Fund 10). Board members asked whether parents would retain the ability to control student access; Hummel said Lightspeed offers parental access tools similar to current options and additional customization. The item will be considered in subsequent procurement action.
