The Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners voted 5‑0 May 19 to authorize a temporary use permit for TNT Fireworks to operate a tent sale from June 24 through July 5, 2026.
Planning staff described the routine application and told the board the Planning & Zoning Board recommended approval. During public comment a resident speaking for Sheryl Proulx urged the commissioners to consider the disturbance fireworks cause to pets and neighbors, saying her neighborhood begins private fireworks displays before and after Independence Day and that the noise "really upsets the whole neighborhood." The speaker also asked that individuals be mindful of how long they discharge fireworks.
Commissioners acknowledged the concerns and encouraged residents to be considerate, but they approved the permit. Commissioner Hale moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Land seconded and the motion carried 5‑0.
Why it matters: Temporary fireworks sales are recurring seasonal requests; the board’s approval enables legal retail sales at the proposed dates while leaving private fireworks use regulation to other ordinances or enforcement as applicable.
What’s next: Staff will finalize the resolution and issue the permit according to the approved dates and conditions.
