State offers to recondition Axolotl Lakes Road; county forester says work could enable logging projects

Darrell Schulte, Madison County forester, told the commissioners on Jan. 5 that the State of Montana approached him about reconditioning Axolotl Lakes Road. The state proposal would recondition and blade roughly 2.5 miles of road and cover a culvert; Schulte said the work could lead to two or three logging projects in the area.
Commissioners discussed the offer and did not take formal action during the work session. The county will consider the scope and potential participation in the state proposal.
