Clerk warns of tabulator‑room water intrusion and proposes exploring dedicated election building

LaSalle County's clerk told the Taxes, Elections & GIS Committee on May 19 that water entered the basement cage and the tabulator room recently but that no election equipment was damaged; she renewed a suggestion to pursue a dedicated election building to store and stage equipment and ease logistics.
The clerk said independent filings for the Nov. 3 general election began the day before and that precinct committee packets were mailed to precinct committee persons; for precincts without a PC, packets were routed to party chairs so they could fill election judge slots. She said once returned lists are compiled she expects to bring a resolution to committee in June and to the full board in July as the statute requires.
"Giving the equipment... into an area where it can all be utilized in a more organized manner will be greatly helpful to the clerk's office," the clerk said, urging the committee to consider locating such storage in the south parking lot or elsewhere. Committee members asked follow‑up questions about logistics, a vendor trial run with the vendor in June, and whether staff would pursue the building proposal through the property committee.
Next steps: the clerk will compile returned PC lists and present a resolution to committee in June with a plan to send it to the full board in July as required by statute. The committee also discussed a vendor check/run in June to verify reports and forms.
