The LaSalle County treasurer told the Taxes, Elections & GIS Committee on May 19 that county receipts for public‑safety accounts were up modestly in May and stronger in recent months, and that key tax mailings and investment maturities are on routine schedules.
The treasurer said mobile‑home tax bills were mailed on April 13 and that the total amount to collect is $119,000; as of the Monday before the meeting $36,000 had been collected. He said investments across county portfolios are averaging close to 4 percent and that two certificates of deposit came due on May 18 and May 22; he expects replacement yields in the high‑threes to around 4 percent depending on market movement. The treasurer also reported a deposit of $300,000 on May 18 and noted cash balances and accounts under collateralization practices.
Committee members asked routine questions about the QuickenBooks backup, account collateralization and whether any accounts exceeded FDIC limits during temporary transfers. The treasurer replied that the audit had flagged a short interim period when funds were moved between accounts to pay a large bill and that all funds are collateralized overall.
A motion to accept the treasurer's report and a separate motion to pay the treasurer's bills were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
