Goochland parks staff report new amenities, ADA ramps and event readiness

Tom Cocke, Parks & Rec, provided a run‑through of recent and ongoing park projects and event preparations across Goochland County. Among the updates: a new batting cage is being installed at the Central High School Sports Complex; the Goochland Sports Complex trailer has been winterized and is ready for spring GYAA baseball and softball; and Hidden Rock Park received new picnic tables while work on a backstop and pitching lanes is underway.
Cocke highlighted a memorial bench recently installed at Tucker Park (donated by an avid pickleball player in memory of his son) and said about 30 people attended the dedication. He also said ADA border ramps were installed at playgrounds at Leakes Mill and Matthews Park after frequent visitor feedback about wheelchair access.
Staff indicated the projects include partnerships with GYAA for youth‑baseball facilities and that some work (for example on Hidden Rock Park and Central HS fields) is intended to support spring programming. No formal motions or fiscal amendments were recorded at the meeting to approve additional spending; work described is either completed, in progress, or completed for seasonal readiness.
