Sylvania Schools board honors students for state qualifiers and championship season

The Sylvania Schools Board recognized dozens of student achievements Wednesday evening, honoring athletes and performers from Northview and Southview for district and state-level accomplishments.
Doctor Motley introduced the commendations and called students to the podium for certificates and photographs. He noted that the Southview boys basketball team won the 2025–26 NLL cardinal division championship — the program’s third consecutive title — and announced that Jeron was selected as the 2025–26 NLL cardinal division player of the year. "Young man, you have earned the 2025–26 NLL cardinal division player of the year," Doctor Motley said as he presented the award.
The board also recognized Northview students who scored 26 or higher on the ACT and members of the Northview dance team for their placements at the 2026 OASSA state dance competition (second in pom, fourth in jazz, fifth in hip hop). Madeline Horton and Caitlin Knopf were recognized for qualifying for the 2026 state diving championships, with their placements read aloud.
The board moved and approved the recognition item (item 2.1) on a voice/roll call vote after a motion by a committee member and a second by the meeting moderator. The approved action covered both individual and team commendations and authorized distribution of certificates and photo opportunities as described at the meeting.
The recognitions concluded with team photos and brief comments from coaches and board members. The board then proceeded to its consent agenda and routine business.
