Commission approves donation of bench, plaque and jacaranda tree at Estancia Park

The commission unanimously accepted on May 21 a donation of a bench, plaque and jacaranda tree for Estancia Park in memory of Mary Alice Sherman.
Staff said the donor will pay for the bench, plaque and tree. The proposed location is east of the Adobe, south of the restroom building, where staff judged the site suitable. Parks staff said they inspect delivered trees and reserve the right to reject plantings that fail city arborist standards; they will request photos in advance and inspect upon delivery.
Commissioners discussed the option to place an additional plaque later if the donor wished to memorialize another family member; staff said plaques can be replaced at donor expense. The commission approved the donation 6–0 and asked staff to coordinate final delivery and planting logistics.
