The Parks and Community Services Commission approved a donated memorial bench and ground plaque for TeWinkle Park on May 21, voting 6–0 to accept the request from donor Sarah Fahey.
Parks staff described the proposed location near the upper fill pond and recommended a standard expanded-metal bench and ground-mounted plaque, citing city furniture standards, durability, maintenance logistics and replacement-part availability. Staff said wooden benches pose durability, maintenance and vandalism concerns in a coastal environment and are not recommended without further directed research and specifications.
Mr. Ryan said the donor will cover the cost of the bench and plaque and city crews will perform installation; the request met council policy requirements for memorial donations. The commission voted to accept the donation without objection.
The bench will be added to the park with city installation and maintenance oversight; policy allows staff to inspect and replace donated plantings or furniture as needed.
