Dirty Mule owner asks Crawford County to opt in to temporary extended alcohol sales during FIFA World Cup

Tawnya Bach, owner of the Dirty Mule Restaurant, Bar and Event Center, asked the Crawford County Board of Commissioners at its May 15 meeting to pass a resolution opting the unincorporated parts of the county into House Bill 24-81 so her establishment could extend alcohol sales for the FIFA World Cup from June 11 through July 19.
Bach told the board the county must pass a resolution and forward a copy to the State ABC and that no additional county permits or licensing would be required. She said the short, 39-day extension would help her business “compete with the businesses in Pittsburg as well as the establishments in Missouri that have opted in” and could generate tax revenue during a typically slow season.
Commissioner Carl Wood asked about the Dirty Mule’s current hours; Bach said the business is open Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Commissioners also asked whether special security plans would be needed; Bach answered they use event security for special events but do not usually employ security on ordinary weeknights.
Commissioner Bruce Blair noted County Counselor Jim Emerson was not present and said Emerson would need to draft a resolution. Blair said he would also expect communication with the sheriff’s office but added he “does not see a problem with this.” Commissioner Wood agreed, confirming a resolution would need to be prepared and then voted on by the board.
The request did not produce an immediate vote. Commissioners instructed staff to draft the resolution and to follow normal procedures before bringing it forward for formal action.
