Trustees approve contractors and major purchases as Gibson Middle nears completion

Trustees received quarterly construction updates and approved multiple procurement items during the May 18 Argyle ISD meeting.

Jason Davis of Polk Construction provided the quarterly update, reporting that Scott Gibson Middle School is nearing substantial completion: landscaping and courtyard turf are in place, classrooms and kitchen equipment are largely installed, hardwood floor work in the gyms will begin shortly, and bleacher installation is next. "We should be in alignment with our schedule for furniture deliveries," Davis said, noting inspections and punch-list items were underway and the team was tracking toward a mid‑July completion target for the middle school.

Administration recommended BTC as the general contractor for the Argyle Middle School baseball/softball renovation and as construction manager at risk (CMAR) for Middle School #2 after a multi-step solicitation and interview process. Project staff described the two-step selection matrix (qualifications, relevant experience, interviews, and fee considerations) and said BTC ranked highest. The board moved and seconded motions to approve BTC for both projects; the motions carried on voice votes.

On procurement, trustees approved purchases over $100,000 including stadium FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment — a not-to-exceed estimate was discussed), Chromebook carts needed this summer (78 carts at about $157,000 charged to bond technology funds), and authorization to proceed with planning for an ERP migration from Ascender to Skyward (midyear conversion would require action in June). "This is a long-term commitment," the finance presenter said of the ERP change, recommending June action to meet vendor timelines.

The board scheduled further action on technology and additional budget amendments in coming months as staff finalizes numbers and prepares formal action items.
