Park Ridge‑Niles District 64 honors Special Olympics and Science Olympiad participants

Park Ridge‑Niles School District 64 recognized student achievements at its May 21 board meeting, honoring participants in this year’s Special Olympics and the district Science Olympiad.
Superintendent Ben Collins introduced the Special Olympics recognition and noted district teams from Emerson, Lincoln, Field, Franklin, Roosevelt and Washington. An announcer identified 24 athletes who competed this season and reported the team earned 11 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals. Collins and the head coach Amanda congratulated athletes and noted three students — Kimmy, Noah and Atticus — will represent the district at the state games at Illinois State University.
Dina Pappas presented the Science Olympiad results, saying roughly 170 students from across the district participated. She read event placings and singled out top finishers across events including aerodynamics, egg drop, mystery box, rubber‑band catapult and structures, naming students and the schools they represent.
Board members and district staff thanked volunteers, event coordinators and parent judges. Collins said the district will provide event photos to families and invited parents to take pictures at the meeting. The recognitions concluded with applause and a scheduled photo opportunity.
The meeting moved on after the recognitions; there were no public comments during the allotted public‑comment period.
