Members of the New York State Assembly paused their legislative business Wednesday to welcome several visiting groups and acknowledge awareness events.
A lawmaker introduced guests from the neurofibromatosis (NF) community and said, "Approximately 7,800 families across New York state are impacted," asking members to recognize May as NF Awareness Month and to thank clinicians and researchers who support patients and families.
Another member introduced employees of Together for Youth, a statewide organization that provides foster care, behavioral health and youth violence prevention services, and noted the group’s "go purple for kids in care" campaign for foster care awareness month. Members welcomed the organization's local staff, who were described as wearing purple in support of the campaign.
The Assembly also welcomed the Baglan family — named as Ata, Suman and Hashmath — in recognition of Ata’s recent completion of a master’s degree in public administration and their travel from Turkey. Separately, the House congratulated the Queensbury Spartan varsity Nordic ski team as the 2026 New York State public high school Nordic team champions and listed students and coaches present.
Finally, members welcomed participants in Capital Region Military Day, with a lawmaker noting representatives from the New York National Guard, a combat aviation brigade, the Navy Reserve Center in Schenectady, the 109th Airlift Wing, the Unified Military Affairs Council and the Capital Region Chamber. The speaker emphasized the economic and workforce ties between military installations and the region.
The introductions and recognitions were ceremonial; the transcript records invitations to extend the "privileges of the floor" but does not record policy action tied to these items.
