Council approves multiple bids, grants and appointments; schedules hearings

At its May 19 meeting, the Orange Beach City Council approved a series of routine resolutions and administrative items, including procurement awards, grant agreements and appointments.
Resolutions adopted included awarding a barricade bid to Friedrich's Custom Manufacturing for $48,750 and a sewer pump purchase to Hydro Service for $75,590. The council also approved rehabilitation and pump installation work for the County Road 4 lift station for the sewer department at $307,303. Each of these resolutions passed by voice vote.
Council authorized execution of a grant award agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration for a $200,000 safety action plan, and accepted a $2,500 award related to the Alabama USA semi-quincentennial commission for an Independence Day street party. The council approved a task order with McCullough Architecture for $12,800 for work on the Events Pavilion/Coastal Arts Center.
Council members also accepted a negotiated price for barricade trailers after staff explained the city received no bids on that procurement, allowing the city to obtain quotes and negotiate under state law. In committee business, staff discussed construction board appeals and the continuation of terms for two board members (Russ Hart and John Townsend), who agreed to continue serving.
The council set or rescheduled several public hearings, including moving the Pirates Voyage PUD hearing to June 16 at the applicant’s request and scheduling Bubba Seaside Mini Golf PUD for June 16. An ordinance amending Chapter 30, Article 3 (Noise) was introduced to align local code with neighboring municipalities and to remove ambiguity; staff members were expected to provide more detail at a later meeting.
Announcements included a ribbon cutting at the Veterans Memorial and the memorial brick fundraising program; the meeting adjourned with reminders about Memorial Day weekend safety and local election hours.
