Jackson County commissioners honor educator, unanimously approve grant amendments and service agreements

At their April 29 meeting the Jackson County Board of Commissioners presented a Community Service Award to Dr. Lance West and unanimously approved several orders: an amendment to a CASA grant (Order No. 104-26), an intergovernmental agreement with the Oregon Health Authority to fund Parent Child Interaction Therapy (Order No. 105-26), and an All-Terrain Vehicle grant agreement with the State Parks and Recreation Department (Order No. 106-26).
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners on April 29, 2026, presented a Community Service Award to Dr. Lance West of Central Point School District No. 6 and approved a set of orders to extend and fund local services, the board said.
County Administrator Danny Jordan told the board that Amendment No. 1 to the grant agreement with CASA of Jackson County, Inc., will extend the term of an existing agreement so CASA can continue providing comprehensive training and expertise on the impact of the opioid epidemic. "This Amendment will extend the term of the Agreement with CASA to provide the training and support," Jordan said.
Jordan also described an intergovernmental agreement with the State of Oregon, by and through the Oregon Health Authority, that will fund Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) services delivered by the Health and Human Services Department. According to Jordan, PCIT teaches caregivers specific skills to strengthen nurturing relationships with children while reducing maladaptive behaviors.
The board approved an All-Terrain Vehicle Grant Program Agreement with the State Parks and Recreation Department to provide funds for enhanced law enforcement patrol and emergency preparedness in areas open to off-highway vehicle recreation in Jackson County.
Commissioner Randy Sparacino moved to approve the Consent Calendar, which included two orders and minutes entries; Commissioner Colleen Roberts seconded, and the motion passed with Commissioners Sparacino, Roberts and Chair Rick Dyer voting aye. Separate motions to approve Order No. 104-26, Order No. 105-26, and Order No. 106-26 were made and seconded as noted in the record and each passed unanimously.
"He lives through his values and truly makes Jackson County a better place to live," Commissioner Randy Sparacino said while presenting the Community Service Award to Dr. Lance West. Commissioner Colleen Roberts said many contributions go unnoticed, which is why the board recognizes community members.
