Board honors retired meteorologist, declares Public Works Week and approves festival funding and NAU MetroPlan membership

At its May 19 meeting the Coconino County Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation and a medal of merit to Brian Klamowski in recognition of his more than 30 years at the National Weather Service, including 23 years as meteorologist‑in‑charge in Flagstaff. Board members praised Klamowski’s leadership during major storms, fires and flood events; Klamowski thanked the county and emphasized the depth of interagency partnerships.
Julie Sullivan of Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music briefed the board on Pickin' in the Pines’ 20th festival and requested $1,500 from District One’s community initiative fund; the board approved the funding by unanimous vote. Sullivan reminded the board the festival offers free educational workshops and that the nonprofit receives a mix of county, city, BBB tax and state arts grants.
Kate Morley, executive director of MetroPlan, described an amended intergovernmental agreement to allow Northern Arizona University to become a full MetroPlan member; Morley said NAU operates substantial campus transit and local roadway infrastructure and that NAU’s membership will help align regional transportation planning. The board approved the IGA amendment unanimously.
Christopher Tressler, public works director, and Deputy Director Jeremy Floyd presented a proclamation designating May 17–23 as National Public Works Week in Coconino County; the board adopted the proclamation with thanks to public‑works staff.
