Board appoints Lincoln attorneys to represent county in Helen Wilson litigation
Summary
Following the death of long-time outside counsel, the county appointed attorneys Patrick O’Brien and Jennifer Tomka to represent Gage County and certain employees in civil litigation related to the Helen Wilson homicide.
The Gage County Board of Supervisors voted in November to retain Lincoln attorneys Patrick T. O’Brien and Jennifer M. Tomka to represent the county, county attorney’s office and certain employees in civil litigation arising from the Helen Wilson homicide. The action replaces long-time outside counsel Paul L. Douglas, who has died.
The board’s resolution authorizes the named counsel to represent the county and to retain additional staff or resources as needed. The county attorney’s office and the board said the appointment was necessary to ensure continuity of defense, and the board noted it had informed the county’s insurance carriers. The board’s action was recorded in a formal resolution and the minutes.
