Commissioners approved a second‑year contract amendment with Care ITC that alters how the county pays for clinical backfill when providers take leave.
A presenter said the county had been paying roughly $1,515,250 a year for backfill (as presented in the meeting) and that, after negotiating and shifting to virtual coverage, the county had been credited $7,500. Going forward, staff said the amendment sets a $125 hourly rate for actual in‑person backfill when the county signs off on a replacement, a change intended to avoid paying in advance for coverage the county does not receive. “We don't wanna be closed for a full week. So it gives us the ability, and we're not paying for something in advance that we potentially aren't getting,” the presenter said.
Commissioners praised efforts to reduce costs and approved the amendment by voice vote. Staff said the amendment gives the county more direct control over backfill costs while preserving service continuity.
