Gage County approves Beatrice-area landfill special-use permit after public hearing
Summary
After a public hearing in May the Gage County Board approved Special Use Permit #2012-1 allowing the Beatrice Area Solid Waste/City of Beatrice to operate a construction-and-demolition and municipal solid-waste landfill in Riverside Township (NE 1/4 Sec. 20).
After a public hearing on May 16, the Gage County Board of Supervisors approved a special-use permit allowing the Beatrice Area Solid Waste, working with the City of Beatrice, to operate a construction & demolition waste landfill and a municipal solid-waste landfill in Riverside Township.
Planning & Zoning staff and the county Planning & Zoning Commission had previously held a hearing and recommended approval; the board’s public hearing drew testimony in support from local residents and representatives, and no one registered opposition at the hearing. The board adopted Resolution No. 12-12 approving Special Use Permit #2012-1 for part of the NE quarter of Section 20, Township 3 North, Range 6 East.
Board members said the application and public comment were considered and recorded; the vote was unanimous, 7–0. The approval allows the City of Beatrice’s solid-waste entity to proceed under the special-use terms described in the application and county conditions.
