Director of Schools reports contract talks for new superintendent and possible state appropriation

Jeff Letchell said the school board moved to enter contract negotiations with Travis Mayfield and hoped to present a contract for board approval at the June 1 meeting. Letchell also noted Pepsi Cola scholarship winners were each awarded $1,650 and praised community partnerships that support students.
Letchell reported graduation activities are concluding and the district expects about 1,600 graduates this school year. He also said the district had previously qualified for up to $3,000,000 in state performance-based funding but would receive only amounts actually made available; he reported the district had received word the state would be providing some additional appropriation but cautioned the money had not yet been received and final appropriation decisions remain with the board once funds are available.
On facilities, Letchell said Watertown Middle School construction work is out to bid with bid openings scheduled at the end of May and that the district expects to return proposals to the board for consideration in June.
