Rhinelander School Board administers oaths and unanimously elects 2025–2026 officers

The School District of Rhinelander Board of Education convened a special organizational meeting on May 12, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the Rhinelander High School Professional Development Center. Merlin Van Buren, serving as appointed clerk for the election, administered the ceremonial Oath of Office to newly elected members Judy Conlin, Kurt Helke, Ronald Lueneburg and Mary Peterson, who then took their seats on the board.
Nominations for board officers followed. Kurt Helke nominated Ronald Counter for president and Mary Peterson seconded the nomination. Paper ballots were collected and read aloud by Shelley Anderson with Superintendent Eric Burke observing; Counter received all eight votes and was elected Board President for the 2025–2026 term. "The Board President for the 2025-2026 term is Ron Counter," the board recorded.
For vice president, Duane Frey nominated Judy Conlin and Mary Peterson seconded; Conlin received all eight paper-ballot votes and was elected Vice President. Judy Conlin nominated Mary Peterson for clerk, with Duane Frey seconding; Peterson received all eight votes and was elected Clerk for the 2025–2026 term. Ronald Counter nominated Mike Roberts for treasurer, seconded by Judy Conlin; Roberts received all eight votes. President Counter confirmed Roberts' acceptance of the Treasurer position despite Roberts being listed as absent on the meeting roll call. President Counter nominated Shelley Anderson for Secretary/Deputy Clerk; Mary Peterson seconded and a voice vote confirmed Anderson's appointment.
President Counter then confirmed committee assignments for the coming year. The board named Judy Conlin chair of the Instruction and Accountability Committee (with Mary Peterson and Patricia Townsend as members); Mike Roberts chair of the Operations and Strategic Planning Committee (with Ronald Lueneburg and Merlin Van Buren); Duane Frey chair of the Employee Relations Committee (with Judy Conlin and Kurt Helke); Mike Roberts chair of the Capital Projects Ad Hoc Committee (with Duane Frey and Merlin Van Buren); and Mary Peterson chair of the Disciplinary Appeals Committee (with Kurt Helke, Ronald Lueneburg and Merlin Van Buren).
The board noted that the meeting agenda and Declaration of Public Notice had been posted in the public places identified on the agenda. With no members of the public wishing to speak, R. Lueneburg moved to adjourn, D. Frey seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote; the meeting adjourned at 5:13 p.m. The minutes were signed and submitted by Mary Peterson, Board Clerk.
All officer elections recorded unanimous support among the eight voting members present at the meeting.
