The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners on May 19 adopted a resolution certifying the county's 2026 summer property tax levy at an allocated rate of 4.0100 mills to be collected July 1, 2026.
Under the motion, the board cited Public Act 357 of 2004 (MCL 211.44a) and the General Property Tax Act (Public Act 206 of 1893) as the legal basis for imposing the county-allocated summer levy. The resolution directs county treasurers that collect the state education tax to account for and deliver the county-allocated mills in accordance with the law.
The vote was taken by roll call and recorded as unanimous: Commissioners Evans Ehardt, Roger Ballard, John Moody, Jon Block, Christine Lee, Bill Sarkella and Gary Heberling voted yes. The resolution text notes the levy rate reflects application of the Headlee millage reduction fraction.
The action formalizes the county's allocation and instructs the county treasurer to mail a copy of the resolution to treasurers that collect the state education tax, as required by the resolution.
The board approved the resolution during its regular meeting held at the Board of Commissioners' Chambers in Sandusky. There was no recorded opposition and no further conditions attached to the adoption.
