Northampton council approves firefighter parade, anniversary events, wedding permit contingent on insurance, seasonal hires and recreation software upgrade

The Borough of Northampton council approved several event permits and administrative items during its meeting.
The council granted permission for the Northampton Fire Department to hold its annual firefighter parade on July 18, 2026, including temporary closure of the recreation-center parking lot and a street closure on Clear Springs Drive. The council also approved a parade and block party for the Northampton Fire Department and Alliance Fire Company No. 1 to mark their combined 125th/120th anniversaries on Sept. 25, 2027, with proposed road closures from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Residents of 248 East 7th Street requested to use a borough-owned lot for a backyard wedding on Sept. 19, 2026. Council members amended and approved that request contingent upon receipt of insurance, a permit and a signed hold-harmless agreement.
Council accepted a package of seasonal employees for the pool and public works; the motion passed with one recorded abstention by a council member. Staff noted the hiring list may change pending final forms and acceptances.
Council voted to replace the recreation center's outdated membership software with PushPress, at an ongoing cost described by staff as $1.59 per month with vendor support for issues.
On fiscal business, council approved payment of bills by motion. Members also discussed the borough’s contract with a regional composting vendor and asked for continued tracking of utilization and costs.
Mayor Tony Pristache used the meeting to invite residents to the Memorial Day ceremony and a mayor’s bike-run safety event at Canal Park; staff also confirmed pool and farmer's-market opening dates (pool scheduled to open June 6 at noon; farmers market begins May 19).
