Franklin Township Open Space staff told the committee on May 19 that work is underway to update the township’s Open Space and Recreation Plan. Staff said they have divided tasks: one staffer will draft plan sections to satisfy Green Acres requirements and planning elements, another will lead outreach, and a colleague will assemble an online public survey focused on recreation programming and open-space uses.
Staff member said updated GIS data from last year’s trails plan will reduce mapping work and that the goal is to present a draft to the public for feedback in roughly two months. The survey will ask respondents about facility awareness, quality and programming needs, and will include location fields (ward) so the committee can identify geographic gaps in access.
Committee members emphasized avoiding survey fatigue and keeping the instrument short, while ensuring enough detail to capture facility awareness (for example, whether residents know about parks such as Franklin Park and Dilor Park). Staff will coordinate website updates and outreach when the survey and draft are ready.
Next steps: staff to finalize survey questions, collect mapping updates and begin public outreach; committee planned follow-up review once a draft is ready.
