At its May 19 meeting the Lee County Board of County Commissioners approved several administrative contracts and financing actions aimed at infrastructure resilience and transportation safety.
Rob Price (speaker 17) presented item 29, an award of just under $875,000 to Highspans Engineering for design of storm‑surge resiliency measures on Sanibel‑Captiva Road and Captiva Drive, with total project costs estimated around $4.8 million. Commissioners moved and carried the item.
Item 30, a roughly $3 million contract to Ajax Paving Industries for interim safety improvements on Barstow Road (including paved shoulders, rumble stripes and turn lanes), was presented by DOT and approved to begin construction after June 1 with about a six‑month expected duration.
Item 31 authorized a competitively bid construction contract to ITG Communications LLC for the Southeast County force main project in the amount of $4,938,518 to expand collection system interconnectivity and increase treatment flexibility; commissioners approved the contract.
The board also convened as the Port Authority and then reconvened as the board to hold TEFRA hearings (item 35) for ATCO Airport Real Estate Group, a proposed third‑party refinancing in an amount not to exceed $9.7 million; staff emphasized the debt would not constitute an obligation of the county or airport authority. The board approved the TEFRA resolution following the hearings.
In addition, the Housing Finance Authority bond issuance for the Avela Northport multifamily project (item 32) was approved in an amount not to exceed $37,000,000; counsel reminded commissioners that HFA bonds do not constitute county debt.
Each administrative item passed on motions and voice votes recorded in the meeting transcript; no detailed roll‑call tallies are printed in the transcript.
