NVUSD seeks board approval of GMP for playground, courtyard and parking improvements across multiple campuses

The board received a presentation on a bond-funded construction package that bundles playgrounds, courtyards and site improvements across multiple NVUSD campuses into a single Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) procurement.

Facilities staff said grouping projects provides scale and better management, and noted Motive Studio as the architect and Core West as the contractor. The scope includes new play structures at TK/K areas, courtyard rework at Phillips and McPherson, parking-lot work at Silverado and Vichy, bathroom/accessibility repairs, and fencing to create single‑point entries at selected sites.

Presenters described a staged construction schedule that targets noisy demolition during the summer and sequences work so that no single play structure will be closed for an entire school year. Staff emphasized that some elements (parking lots, major site work) may extend beyond the summer and into the following spring.

Trustees and staff discussed sequencing priorities for TK and kindergarten play areas and how construction will be staged to minimize disruptions for parents and students. No formal vote on the GMP was taken at the presentation; the facilities item was part of the evening’s reports and staff said a future action item will return to the board for formal approval.

Board members praised the visual renderings and urged staff to maintain clear communication with school communities about timelines and temporary access changes.
