Council Chair Sue Marshall praised Auditor Greg Kinsey and elections staff for their response to October 2024 attacks on ballot drop boxes and described operational changes the office made to protect voters and administrators.
Marshall said Auditor Kinsey and staff retrieved burned and destroyed ballots directly from targeted drop boxes, improved fire suppression systems, and shared lessons learned so other jurisdictions could better prepare. “The auditor and election staff response to this situation was pretty amazing,” she said.
According to Marshall, staff identified 488 damaged ballots and mailed 143 replacement ballots to voters who had not already contacted the election office for new ballots. She said staff also updated their ballot retrieval schedule and provided continuous drop‑box observation "24 hours a day, 7 days a week" at each of the county's 22 drop boxes while the changes were in effect.
Marshall thanked the auditor and the election staff on behalf of the council and voters and urged residents to use the county website for election information.
