At its May 21, 2026 meeting the St. Mary's County Police Accountability Board discussed a proposed community outreach plan and voted unanimously to table the effort until the fall while staff compiles cost estimates.
Members said staffing constraints and expense were the primary concerns: the board mentioned an estimated $600 for a table and roughly $100 for a canopy for an outdoor event. Rather than an expensive brochure, board participants recommended a low-cost, single-sheet handout that explains who the board is, what it does, when it meets and how members of the public can file complaints, accompanied by a printed sample complaint form and a small card with a QR code linking to the complaint portal.
Chair Nick Cromwell moved to table the outreach plan to allow staff time to return with budget figures; the motion passed unanimously. Staff was asked to bring back cost estimates ahead of the board’s fall meeting so the board can prepare a budget request.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m.; the matter will return then if staff provides the requested cost information.
