Residents ask about cuts to SAFE funding and ICE activity; city says no local ICE incidents
Summary
A resident asked whether cuts to federal and state SAFE-team funding have contingency plans; the police chief said the department can refer people to SAFE and no ICE or CBP activity has been observed locally after a joint meeting that prompted a council resolution.

During public comment, a Cotati resident identified as Laurie asked whether anticipated federal and state cuts to SAFE-team funding would affect local services and whether the city had alternate plans.
“On the safe teams, funding… is looks like it's gonna be cut in this coming budget year. And I'm wondering what if there's any alternate plans, or is there a way to incorporate those services in the future?” Laurie asked.
The police chief responded that SAFE can be one option for referrals when residents need services: “But, with SAFE that if we have, someone who's in needs of some sort of… if they need some sort of services or they need some help with something, then SAFE would be at least a an option or a tool for that,” he said.
Later in the meeting a resident asked whether Immigration and Customs Enforcement had appeared locally following a recent joint meeting; staff and the police chief said no ICE or CBP activity had been observed. A staff member also told the committee the city council had adopted a resolution following the joint meeting but that the resolution did not change police department standard operating procedures.
The comments produced information rather than new action: officials described referral options and confirmed no local ICE activity was noted. Committee members did not record any policy changes or funding commitments in the meeting itself.
