Newburgh City School District board canvasses May 19 vote, posts totals for two propositions and board seats

The Newburgh City School District Board of Education met in a special session to canvass and tabulate the returns from the May 19, 2026 annual district meeting, reviewing affidavit ballots and recording final vote totals.
The district’s clerk introduced agenda item 2.2, saying 14 affidavit ballots had been confirmed by the Board of Elections and would be canvassed, and named the registered voters whose affidavits would be reviewed. The clerk led a line-by-line signature check with the poll clerks; most signatures were recorded as matching during the verification, with at least one mismatch noted during the process.
“The grand total of machine voters with 2,230. There were 305 early votes. There was 13 people that voted by affidavit. The total number of voters in the district were 2,548,” the district clerk said, presenting the districtwide turnout figures. The clerk then read proposition totals: “Proposition 1, yes is 1,385. Proposition 1, no, 1,056. Proposition 2, yeses, 1,789. Proposition 2, no, 624.”
The clerk also announced board-candidate totals recorded in the canvas: “Deborah [transcript variants: Bouley/Boulet/Brule] received a grand total of 1,205 votes. Ray Bergarelli received 1,226 votes. Victoria Boucher received 1,205 votes. Leticia Politti received 1,281 votes,” the clerk said. The clerk then formally presented the results from the canvas to the board.
Board members thanked election staff for the manual counts and logistics. The board president added that the district had deployed a new software program introduced by the clerk that helped processing and that the system was largely “flawless” during the count.
The board then voted on the canvass resolution (item 2.2) and approved the resolution by roll call.
The board recessed later in the meeting to obtain legal advice before returning to public session and adjourning. The clerk’s report and the board’s formal approval close the district’s certification steps on these results; the transcript shows the clerk’s presentation and the board’s roll-call approval as the recorded public actions.
