The Middletown Area SD board voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the permanent closure of a school effective Aug. 26, contingent on the opening of the Middletown Area Primary School (MAPS) for the 2627 school year.
The resolution authorizes board officers, the superintendent and the chief financial officer to take necessary steps to complete the closure and to ratify prior actions taken to affect the closure of the school buildings. The motion was seconded and passed by roll-call vote with all board members recorded as voting yes.
Board members also approved a district reconfiguration by grade span and an associated grade-span change for an existing building, effective with the 2627 school year contingent upon receipt of a certificate of occupancy from Middletown Area Primary School. The actions included affirming prior changes to district building addresses (items 1–5 on the agenda), which also carried.
During discussion, administrators reiterated reliance on feasibility studies and cost analyses that informed the reconfiguration decision; the superintendent noted the district has posted supporting construction and cost materials on the district website for public review. Board members asked that public-facing talking points include cost implications and educational benefits.
The board recorded no opposing votes in the roll-call on the closure motion and concluded by directing administrators to proceed with the tasks necessary to implement the closure if occupancy conditions are met.
