Ontario council presents Model Colony awards and approves development, bond and valet‑parking measures

Assistant Director/Planner Rudy Zelidon (speaker 7) introduced the awards program and a short video highlighting historic Ontario resources. Associate Planner Ellie Antuna (speaker 14) presented four recipients receiving awards of merit: the Philip Weeks House (Rosewood Court Historic District), the Albert S. Leo House (Armsley Square Historic District), the Masonic Hall (local landmark #21), and the U.S. Post Office at Laurel and Holt (a Works Progress Administration building constructed in 1939). Recipients and planning‑commission members were invited forward to accept awards and be photographed.
On the consent and administrative calendars, the council approved an urgency ordinance (PDCA 24‑001) amending the Development Code to authorize objective design and development standards for multifamily and mixed‑use housing and found the action exempt from CEQA as noticed; the motion passed 4–0 with Councilmember Bowman absent. The council also approved a resolution authorizing issuance of special‑tax bonds for CFD No. 35 (Countryside Phase 2) and an adoption of a declaration of official intent to reimburse facilities expenditures with bond proceeds; that motion passed by roll call. Finally, the council adopted an ordinance to add valet‑parking regulations to the municipal code (Article 22 to Chapter 6, Title 4). The motions carried with the council recording votes in the absence of one member.
The council scheduled the next meeting for Tuesday, June 18, 2024, and adjourned following brief council remarks and community announcements about July Fourth and Ontario Night Out.
