At the May 18 meeting, Amy Schultz presented the district's March financial report, detailing cash balances, revenue drivers and how one-time movements affected fund percentages.
Schultz told the board the district's cash position began the reporting month at just over $61 million and ended the month at just over $63 million. She said March receipts were higher than normal, and that roughly $9.5 million of receipts in the month came from state metered payments used for items such as childcare and nutrition.
Schultz explained a recent bond refunding influenced the appearance of some fund percentages: nearly $50,000,000 of revenue flowed through the bond refunding fund, increasing that fund's share of the budget on paper. She said operating funds (general, food service and community service) are within about 2% of where they were in the previous two school years at the same point.
On expenditures, Schultz said the district has paid expected costs in debt service for the year and noted that supplies and purchase-service categories can move month-to-month depending on timing of deliveries (for example, furniture purchases tend to show up in summer months). Board members thanked Schultz and made light remarks about asking students to present financials in the future.
No board action was required; the report was informational and will be incorporated into regular monthly reporting.
