The Andalusia City Council voted to approve the purchase of replacement LED lighting for the Kiwanis Sports Center fields and authorized financing through CCB Community Bank.
Mayor: "The amount is $510,300 approximately... we have worked with a lighting company... We also have arranged for a loan from CCB Community Bank, for that $510,300 for 5 year interest rate fixed for 5 years." The mayor said the fixtures are more than 25 years old and need replacement.
City staff said the chosen vendor is on the state bid list, which the mayor said allows the city to award the work without conducting a new public bid. The mayor described the lighting as the latest technology and said it will be a "huge improvement for the ball fields." The mayor also detailed financing options: amortization of 5, 7 or 10 years at a fixed rate of 4.655% with a $205 origination fee.
Council member Craig moved to approve the purchase and the loan; another council member seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The financing approval clears the way for procurement and installation; city staff said installation will take substantial time once ordered.
