Virginia Beach PTA council honors citywide volunteers, names award winners

A presenter working with the council stressed the continuing importance of volunteer involvement: "Being involved in the PTA is still critically important to the success of schools. Your efforts really matter," they said.
Organizers announced two new honors this year. One is an award the Family and Community Engagement Office is presenting; the other is a male engagement award. The Presenter said the male engagement award recipient, nominated by Parkway and Renaissance Academy, is Gary Kason, and offered congratulations. The council also said it is using Sign Up Genius Enterprise to list volunteer opportunities and will recognize the primary and secondary schools that post the most volunteer opportunities.
Moderator announced the citywide volunteer winners: primary citywide volunteer of the year Jessica Gooden of Christopher Farms Elementary School, and secondary volunteer of the year Natalie Biggie of Virginia Beach Middle School. The ceremony concluded with the Moderator thanking volunteers for their efforts and noting that even small events—"cookies and cocoa" gatherings—bring communities together.
The ceremony focused on recognition and peer-sharing rather than policy or formal action; no votes or motions were recorded. Follow-up items noted by the council included broader promotion of the Sign Up Genius Enterprise listing and continued outreach to recruit male volunteers.
