Family Services Alliance asks Bannock County for $10,000 to support shelter and hotline services

Sarah O'Banion, director of Family Services Alliance, urged Bannock County commissioners to provide level funding of $10,000 to sustain the nonprofit’s crisis hotline, rural advocacy and operation of an emergency shelter the county subsidizes.
O'Banion described the agency’s work supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, including courthouse advocacy and outreach to rural communities such as Downey. "We are funded through the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance," O'Banion told commissioners, explaining most funding starts as federal dollars that flow to the state and are awarded through state programs; the agency also partners with Idaho State Police, Idaho Housing and Finance Association, United Way and local foundations.
She said the agency spent about $30,000 on the shelter last year for capital and maintenance work, including roof and foundation repairs, and praised county staff and volunteers who help with repairs and in‑kind support. O'Banion invited commissioners to the agency’s 'Celebration of Voices' event on June 25 at Marley Brewery and asked the county to continue its existing support so advocates can continue outreach and crisis response in rural parts of the county.
Commissioners thanked O'Banion for the presentation and for the agency’s partnership; no formal action was taken during the meeting on the funding request.
