Lakota Local appoints interim treasurer, approves personnel changes tied to central-office reorganization

“I'm very honored to get to serve in Lakota,” Bertram told the board in brief remarks after the vote. The board described a short overlap period so the incoming treasurer can work directly with current staff.
On personnel, Dr. Whiteley described multiple superintendent recommendations, administrator contract continuations and vendor contracts (including a one-year printer-management contract and subscriptions such as a wellness app). The board approved several consent personnel items after discussion.
The board also approved a resolution to implement a reduction in force (suspension of a classified staff contract) tied to a central-office reorganization that splits special education and pupil services into two executive-director roles. Dr. Whiteley and other members stressed the district intends not to eliminate services; rather, responsibilities will be absorbed into the new director roles and partnerships with outside providers (Children’s Hospital and MindPeace) will continue.
During the RIF discussion Dr. Whiteley said retirements and resignations are governed by state rules and cannot be denied when eligibility criteria for retirement are met. The roll call on the reduction-in-force resolution recorded one abstention and multiple yes votes in favor.
What happens next: Bertram will begin Aug. 1 and the district will implement an overlap and transition plan with current finance staff. The board asked staff to continue finalizing contract language and to ensure continuity of student-facing wellness and counseling services while central-office roles are adjusted.
