The Brian Head Town Council on April 28 adopted an ordinance dedicating a portion of Blue Jay Way to provide formal access to the Timbercrest subdivision.
Planning & Building Administrator Greg Sant said the Timbercrest plat was annexed without a direct road connection; the dedication formalizes the connection between Blue Jay Way and Granite Court and allows the Town to accommodate a property owner who wishes to install water and sewer lines within the newly dedicated right-of-way. Town Manager Bret Howser explained that the original proposed connection crossed former Forest Service land and that a recorded easement had since been used; converting to a right-of-way provides broader utility and maintenance privileges. The Town will convey a portion of Town-owned Lot 4 to the Davies family so the family’s lot remains approximately the same size after dedication.
Council members discussed the proposed 30-foot right-of-way width, noting the town’s typical 50-foot standard for new subdivisions but concluding that 30 feet provides adequate lane width and space for some snow storage in this context. A written public comment raised the question whether 30 feet would sufficiently support traffic for 43 homes served; staff responded that 30 feet is adequate for two-lane traffic on this alignment. Council Member Larry Freeberg moved to adopt Ordinance No. 26-007 dedicating the portion of Blue Jay Way; Council Member Duane Nyen seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
The council’s action aligns the road width with Granite Court and completes the local approvals necessary for the formal right-of-way dedication. Next administrative steps include recording the ordinance and the lot conveyance documentation.
