The Village Board approved updates to its five-year equipment replacement and facilities improvement plans on May 19, authorizing a slate of projects for 2027 and beyond and voting to amend the budget to fund a DPW aerial-truck down payment.
Staff said the equipment plan includes continued replacement of municipal vehicles and tools (automated garbage truck trade-in program, a sidewalk snow-removal machine), police squad vehicles and gear, IT workstation refreshes, security-camera leasing, and digital archiving. The manager proposed adding a new ADA-compliant village website to meet upcoming accessibility rules and simplify navigation; that item is planned for 2027 and will follow an RFP process.
In the facilities plan, recommended 2027 projects include Village Hall carpet replacement, a new generator, a Public Works cold-storage building at the pumping station site, police HVAC controls replacement, library study/conference room additions and CLC carpet replacement. Staff described an approach to cost-sharing with the school district on a Park & Rec counter project and discussed potential funding through grants (CDBG) for accessible amenities.
Trustees raised public-safety procurement concerns; the fire chief briefed the board on apparatus lead times (8 months to 4 years) and signaled an engine replacement may be needed sooner than shown in the plan, prompting discussion about regional sharing of a ladder truck and when to place orders. The board approved both the equipment and facilities plan updates by roll call.
Separately, the board approved a resolution to amend the budget and increase debt proceeds by $58,000 to cover a down payment for an aerial truck (DPW capital), and authorized a purchase order to hold the vehicle.
