Tammy, the elementary principal, presented preliminary assessment data and said the district was pleased with growth in English language arts but saw a concerning dip in third-grade math for the cohort moving from second grade. "Third grade math was our biggest drop. It went from 61% to 38%," she said, adding that staff will "dive deep into the data" to identify specific skill gaps.
The board approved an $11,050 resubscription to Lexia Learning Systems to expand literacy software across grade levels, with a portion of the cost to be charged to federal ELL funds where appropriate. Tammy said Lexia will be used during RTI and that kindergarten teachers will trial reading-eggs before switching to Lexia at semester.
Members also authorized professional development and program purchases for writing instruction. Tammy described a $6,000 PD package and approximately $16,897.25 for program materials that include teacher manuals and student workbooks; the board approved both. The district also approved a $58,172.10 purchase of 95% Group phonics materials to extend phonics instruction K–6 and create continuity with existing grade-level work.
Board members emphasized the need to align interventions to individual students rather than rely solely on grade-level results. The purchases are intended to provide instructional continuity, targeted interventions and summer PD to prepare teachers for implementation.
