USDA rural-development briefing and Fernley High School VITA students brief commissioners

At a 9:00 a.m. time-certain the Board heard two informational presentations: Alida Ceballos, State Director for USDA Rural Development, briefed commissioners on the agency’s mission, water and environmental programs, Community Facilities Direct Loan program, single-family housing and business programs, and recent and upcoming Rural Development investments affecting Lyon County. Commissioners asked questions and thanked her for the overview.
Following that briefing, student volunteers Robert Woolsey, Markus Javier and Rebecca Mayer presented on the Fernley High School Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The students outlined program goals, training and student service components, growth metrics covering 2022–2024 and 2026 performance, testimonials and estimated cost savings to senior citizens who use the service.
Both presentations were for information only and required no board action; staff and presenters answered commissioner questions during each segment.
