Board approves HOSA students' out-of-state travel to Indianapolis

The Las Vegas City Schools Board of Education voted to approve out-of-state travel for a group of middle-school HOSA competitors to attend the HOSA international competition in Indianapolis in mid‑June.
Britney Vargas, who introduced the students and asked the board for travel approval and financial support, said the group has held a calendar fundraiser and school dances and that fundraising receipts are in the student account. She named several students by grade and event (for example, Destiny Romero and Ewelina Valdez, eighth graders competing in First Step career skills) and said roughly 10 students will attend.
Board members asked Vargas what fundraising had been completed and whether the student account balance had been reconciled; Vargas said she would verify the current account value. Several board members commended the students’ achievement and recommended supporting the trip consistent with district practice for other clubs and athletics.
A motion to approve the travel passed. The board president congratulated the students and wished them luck at the competition. The approved travel dates discussed by the presenter covered June 15–21 (departure and return windows described in the presentation).
