County warns residents about Planning and Zoning scam demanding wire transfers

Community Development Director Stephan Metzger told the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on March 23 that his office has identified a scam in which fraudsters produce Planning and Zoning‑style letters bearing his name and ask recipients to wire large sums of money.
Metzger said Planning and Zoning staff will never request wire transfers for permits or applications and that typical fees would not exceed $400. He asked residents to call the Planning and Zoning office before wiring or otherwise sending large sums and said staff will proactively contact new applicants to warn them about the scam.
The warning was presented as a protective measure for residents and applicants; commissioners did not take formal action but accepted the notice and the outreach plan described by Metzger.
