County board holds multiple executive sessions on legal and personnel matters; approves a Sheriff’s Department card and presents service awards

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners recessed into several brief executive sessions during its Dec. 1 meeting to discuss attorney-client privileged legal advice, interagency issues and non-elected personnel matters. Chair David Christy made multiple motions to enter executive session; County Counselor Jonathan Ehrlich attended and the board announced afterward that no binding action was taken.
The board approved a company card for Kenneth Beaver, an employee in the Sheriff's Department, and authorized the Chair to sign on the commission's behalf. Commissioners also presented service awards to Levi Darveaux of Road and Bridge (5 years), Lori Williams of the Health Department (15 years) and Larry Varner of the Sheriff's Office (5 years). Varner was present for the awards.
A personnel matter concerning an employee's vacation time was taken into executive session at the request of the County Counselor with the employee present; the board later reported no binding action. County Counselor Jonathan Ehrlich also updated the board on current and upcoming court hearings later in the meeting. Register of Deeds Delia Heston raised questions about statutes and petitions for vacating property interests; Ehrlich said he would research the issue further.
