Jefferson County reports pipeline rupture in McLouth; 17 homes evacuated, no injuries

Jefferson County emergency officials reported a pipeline rupture in McLouth during the Dec. 1 commissioners meeting that prompted evacuations but caused no injuries.
"Seventeen houses were evacuated," Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers told the board, adding that Enterprise crews responded with nitrogen trucks to secure the pipeline and stabilize the scene. Jeffers said county responders set up shelter and warming space at a local school, the Church of the Nazarene and with the Red Cross so firefighters and volunteers could get out of the cold.
Jeffers also briefed the commissioners on a related rail incident in Perry, saying a Union Pacific train had about 33 cars derail. He did not report any injuries from that incident.
The county did not announce additional public-safety orders during the meeting. Commissioners did not take further formal action on the pipeline incident at the session; county staff will continue incident management and provide updates as available.
