Jefferson County commissioners voted Jan. 12, 2026, to purchase a JCB Hydradig Excavator for $184,455.25 following a presentation of multiple bids by Public Works Director Ben Domann.
Domann presented several bids: Kan Equip for a New Holland tractor ($243,450.07), a John Deere bid ($234,950.54), a Massey Ferguson package ($214,300.00 via Shuck Implement Co.), a JCB Hydradig Excavator ($184,455.25), and a second John Deere bid ($179,026.36). Domann said he favored the second-lowest bid for user-friendliness and versatility, but the board moved to purchase the JCB Hydradig, on a motion by Commissioner Doug Walbridge seconded by Commissioner Richard Malm. The motion carried unanimously.
The minutes record the chosen equipment and purchase price; the county will proceed with procurement under the terms of the accepted bid.
The purchase replaces or augments the county's fleet and will be managed by Public Works.
