Jefferson County proclaims January 2026 Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Maggie Bornholdt, Assistant Director of Community Services, met with the Jefferson County Board on Feb. 2 to discuss Human Trafficking Awareness Month, which the minutes state is observed in January each year. Bornholdt told the board that due to weather she could not make the earlier meeting and appeared to present the proclamation at this session.
Commissioner David Christy moved that the commission of Jefferson County, Kansas proclaim January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and urge citizens to speak out against sex and labor trafficking and exploitation. Commissioner Doug Walbridge seconded the motion; David Christy signed the proclamation on behalf of the board and the motion passed unanimously.
The proclamation asks residents to be vigilant and to support prevention efforts; no further policy action or funding was recorded in the minutes.
