Commissioners hear community, school-district and health updates; present employee service awards

At its April 14, 2026 meeting, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners received briefings from community and school-district representatives, heard a public-health notice, recognized long-serving staff and tabled several quit claim deeds for later consideration.
Tod Edmonds, chair of Jefferson County RSD#7, delivered the district's yearly update, reporting efforts to document prior maintenance and to improve security, internet connectivity and maps. Hayley Cannon, secretary of Lakeside Village, told the board the community is divided but that the board is working on long-standing needed improvements; she praised Stephan Metzger, Community Development Director, and said the Landbank had been helpful to the community.
Health Administrator Wanda Agnew informed the board that April 22 is National Drug Endangered Children Day, intended to raise awareness about children affected by drug misuse and to promote protective actions.
Chair David Christy presented service awards to four county employees: Denise Essman (25 years, Ambulance), Elizabeth Cohorst (10 years, Road and Bridge), James Copeland (15 years, Auxiliary) and Janet Allen (20 years, Appraiser's Office). The minutes note Janet Allen was present to accept her award.
Separately, the Commission decided to table consideration of quit claim deeds presented at the meeting until the following week. No public testimony opposing or supporting the deeds is recorded in the minutes.
