Burnsville proclaims Military Appreciation Week and recognizes students entering the military

Mayor Elizabeth Kautz proclaimed May 18–20, 2026 as Military Appreciation Week. Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon volunteer coordinator Mike Huddleston said the program has recognized about 136 students over the last decade and would recognize 14 students that evening with gift cards, honor cords and challenge coins.
The Burnsville City Council proclaimed May 18–20, 2026 as Military Appreciation Week, with special emphasis on students who have chosen to enter military service.
Mayor Elizabeth Kautz read a proclamation recognizing the work of Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and partner veteran organizations. Mike Huddleston, volunteer coordinator for Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, told the council the organization has recognized "approximately a 136 students over the last, 10 years" and that 14 students were being recognized that evening. He described small gifts presented to students (Target gift cards, a red/white/blue honor cord intended to be worn at graduation, and a challenge coin) and thanked partner organizations including the Burnsville VFW, Dakota County Veterans Services and local schools.
Huddleston invited students and families forward for recognition, noted photo and refreshment logistics after the ceremony, and described arrangements for distributing gift bags to students who could not attend.
